The Productivity EnigmaDavid Warsh, the author of "Knowledge and the Wealth of Nations" writes a weekly piece that is available for free on his web site [www.economicprincipals.com]. I have attached the most recent edition to this page for your pleasure. He writes about both the importance of productivity and our quest for better understanding of its origin. I have given you the conventional wisdom in class, but there remains much more to be learned. From time to time I will include other Warsh essays for your reading. Massachusetts Health Care ProgramThe new health care program in Massachusetts is worthy of examination. Attached is a collection of articles.Some interesting features to watch for:1. The individual mandate vs. the employer mandate or the taxpayer mandate.2. The incentives and disincentives that have been changed from the traditional systems.3. The portability of coverage--not perfect but improving.4. The big question marks:a. Have free riders been cut off, or will they drive costs still higher?b.
